چکیده

When patients present with chest pain, clinical examination and patient history are fundamental to determine the probable cause of pain and the selection of appropriate tests to confirm clinical suspicions. In the case of myocardial ischemia due to coronary artery disease (CAD), the patient often but not always presents with the classical symptoms, chest tightness and left arm pain. However, cardiac symptoms may be similar to indigestion, muscle spasm, or other nonspecific complaints. Nevertheless, other causes of chest pain that do not have cardiac origin, including pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax and aortic dissection must always be considered.

Objective: The risk of cardiac death in diabetic patients is 3 times more than non-diabetics. But it is not determined who need cardiac screening. About 41% of diabetic patients with silent ischemia are missed. the carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and ankel brachial index are two independent, simple and non invasive method in vascular complications diagnosis in diabetic patients. The aim of ...

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy for Coronary Artery Disease: Relationship of Symptom Amelioration and Ischemia Improvement

Objective(s): The current management of coronary artery disease (CAD) relies on three major therapeutic options, namely medication, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, severe CAD that is not indicated for PCI or CABG still bears a poor prognosis due to the lack of effective treatments. In 2006, extracorporeal cardiac shock wave (SW) the...

Application of Anatomical and Functional Modalities in Detection of Silent Myocardial Ischemia in Asymptomatic Diabetic Patients- A Review Article

Cardiovascular disease (CAD) screening in asymptomatic patients with diabetes mellitus is controversial. An exercise stress test is a safe and effective initial testing for Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) screening. Treadmill stress test is not the best screening method for a particular patient who is not able to exercise, abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) or positive exercise treadmill test (ETT) ...

Coronary artery calcium (CAC) score – a prognostic tool in coronary artery disease?

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of measurement of coronary artery calcification score (CAC) in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD) and a normal myocardial perfusion scan. Methods: In a prospective study we measured the calcium score of 74 patients (29 m, 45 f, mean age 58.7 (m) and 64.4 (f)) with suspicion of CAD and a normal perfusion scan. In ...

THALLIUM-201 STRESS TEST IN 156 PATIENTS WITH SUSPECTED CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE

Currently, myocardial TI-201 scintigraphy is most often performed in conjunction with exercise stress testing in patients with suspected or known CAD. Stress thallium tests were performed for 156 patients with and without old myocardial infarctions complaining of chest pain. All of them underwent contrast coronary angiography. Perfusion defects were mostly manifested as reversible defects ...
